Holiday Shop Hours in Athens, Piraeus, and Thessaloniki

Here’s a look at the shop hours in Greece for Christmas and New Year’s which go into effect in Athens and Piraeus on Dec.12.

To meet the holiday demand, shops in Athens and Piraeus will be shifting to a holiday schedule starting on Thursday, Dec. 12 through to Jan. 3.

According to an Athens Chamber of Commerce announcement, stores in Athens and the wider Attica region will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

More specifically:

  • Thursday, Dec. 12: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 13: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 14: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 15: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 16: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 17: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 18: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 19: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 20: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 21: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 22: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

It is reminded that shops will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26, and on Jan. 1, 2, and 6.

Stores will return to regular hours starting on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.

In Thessaloniki, the holiday shop schedule goes into effect on Saturday, Dec. 14. As of Dec. 16. and through to Dec. 20, shops will open daily at 10:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. Shops will close at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 21. Shop owners will be able to open for business on Sunday on Dec. 15, 22, and 29 to 6:00 p.m.

According to the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce, on Sunday Dec. 15 and 22 shops will be able to open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m.

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, shops in Thessaloniki will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Stores will remain closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 26, New Year’s Day and Jan. 2.

Athens will be lighting its Christmas tree on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 6pm at Syntagma Square.
