Two Sudanese Men Arrested in Crete for Attempted Rape

The perpetrators were arrested yesterday afternoon for attempted rape and are scheduled to appear before the Prosecutor today.

Two Sudanese males were arrested in Crete after a young Dutch couple told police the two suspects, 20 and 23, attacked them and attempted to rape the woman on Friday morning. The incident took place in the port area of Hersonissos, Heraklion when the two African men attempted to rape the 19-year-old woman.

According to information from local news site Ekriti, the couple was in a secluded spot behind the port when the attack unfolded. The next day, the young woman reported the incident to the Port Authorities describing how one of the alleged attackers pushed her to the ground intending to rape her.

The other Sudanese male assaulted the Dutch man’s girlfriend after the latter tried to defend her. Heraklion law enforcement officers managed to track down and identify the alleged assailants via surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
