A Turkish missile boat has remained in international waters, currently navigating off the coast of Tilos and heading south toward Rhodes—well clear of Amorgos and Santorini, according to TO VIMA’s latest reports.
This development follows a meeting last week by the Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), held in the context of Turkey’s alert regarding seismic activity originating from Santorini.
As TO VIMA reports, the seismic events, which have triggered a series of earthquakes in the Aegean region, have garnered significant attention, with Turkish media outlets reporting that Turkey is eager to contribute to seismic research efforts in the area. Some reports even suggest that seismic survey vessels may be deployed, with one allegedly heading toward Santorini to assist with ongoing research initiatives.
Upon the Turkish missile boat’s appearance in the Aegean sea yesterday, the Hellenic Navy immediately initiated continuous surveillance, utilizing radar systems, observation posts, and other monitoring tools. The vessel has since remained exclusively within international waters, currently off the coast of Tilos and moving southward toward Rhodes.
Earlier, it transited between Amorgos and Patmos, consistently staying within international waters. Notably, two Greek research vessels—the oceanographic ship Aegean and another conducting seismic studies—are operating in the area.
It is important to note that the Turkish missile boat did not approach Santorini at any point during its movements.
