Several municipalities in the country have announced school closures this week as a precautionary civil protection measure, in light of the heatwave in Greece which is expected to sweep the country.
The region of Attica is still considering the way ahead and may make announcements shortly. In the meantime, the following modifications to the operation of schools has been communicated:
Municipality of Epidavros: Schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Ermionida: Schools are closed from Tuesday to Thursday
Municipality of Livadia: Schools are closed from Tuesday to Thursday
Municipality of Trikkaia: Schools will operate until 11.30 am. on Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Meteora: Schools will operate until 11.30 am. from Tuesday to Thursday
Municipality of Mantoudi – Limni – Agia Anna: Schools are closed from Tuesday to Thursday
Municipality of Eretria: Schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Lamia: Schools will operate until 11.30 am. on Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Thebes: Schools will operate until 11.30 am. on Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Amfikleia – Elateia: Schools will operate until 11.30 am. on Wednesday and Thursday
Municipality of Sintiki: Schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday
Directors of school units which will continue to operate the next few days are advised to adhere to the following guidelines, wherever possible to mitigate the effects of the heatwave in Greece:
- Use shady and cool rooms, where possible, for exams
- Ensure access to water and juices for students and teachers
- Be alert of the potential for electrical fluctuations and be prepared to handle and rectify
- Avoid all activities in the sun, including breaks and sports activities
