With the heatwave in Greece continuing to “torment” the country and authorities issuing a list of safety instructions and advice for the more vulnerable people, impressive footage released from a thermal camera captured by public broadcaster’s (ERT) drone illustrates the varying effects of the high temperatures on the landscape.

The video reveals the significant temperature differences between areas with vegetation and those with concrete and asphalt. Spaces with trees and parks are noticeably cooler, while urban areas, especially central spots with many buildings, are much hotter, enhancing the urban heat island effect.

Meanwhile, the Greek meteorological services issued an updated bulletin about the heatwave across the country.

According to the latest forecast, the highest temperatures are recorded in the eastern part of the country, from the region of Thessaly in central Greece and further south, due to descending westerly winds, mainly in areas not affected by the sea breeze.
