The Greek Police (EL.AS) were put on high alert after a dramatic pursuit of unknown suspects on a motorcycle ended with the discovery of three grenades in the Keratsini suburban township of the port of Piraeus, on Saturday morning. During the chase, the suspects threw a bag onto the street, which was later found to contain the explosive devices.
The incident occurred when the two riders on the motorcycle were motioned to stop for a regular inspection by police from the rapid response unit because they looked suspicious. The driver took off at a fast rate of speed, evading police and setting them on a high-speed chase.
At the intersection of Anapafseos and Platonos streets, the motorist threw a tiny bag onto the roadway. Officers searched the backpack once the chase ended and found three grenades inside. Fortunately, none of the explosives went off.
Specialists from the Greek Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit are currently at the scene, and authorities have sealed off the area to ensure public safety.
