The body of a Greek skier, who had earlier been pronounced missing after he was buried by an avalanche in a Bulgarian ski resort, was recovered by rescue teams late Monday.
As reported by novinite.com, the body of the man for whom a large search and rescue operation had been underway was located in the area where he and three of his friends went skiing, in the Rila mountain range in southwest Bulgaria.
The man has been identified as Konstantinos Momtsis from Florina, northern Greece.
According to reports, the 36-year-old skier was a passionate mountaineer and winter sports lover and constantly traveled to various areas in Greece and abroad, as he recently did with three of his friends in neighboring Bulgaria, in Borovets, where he died on Monday (12/2).
According to public broadcaster ERT, the Greek skiers descended the steepest part of the slope, which resulted in them being buried under the avalanche. The three managed to free themselves, but unfortunately, the 36-year-old did not make it and was found dead by the rescue team involved in the search.
