As consumers in Greece are readying to take advantage of discounted products on Black Friday, which this year falls on November 29, a recent survey carried out by Revolut, which has over 1 million customers in Greece, sheds light on the anxieties and preferences, shaping the shopping habits of Greeks during the annual sales event.

According to the responses of 1,000 people who took part in the survey, 7% reported feeling anxious about the risk of being deceived during Black Friday. However, despite this unease, they stated that they still intended to hunt for great deals.

Revolut, also reports that the possibility of fraud is the reason 5% of respondents will be reluctant to shop during Black Friday. In fact, 7% of Greeks aged 45-54 are particularly determined to refrain from Black Friday purchases in order to avoid the risk of a potential scam.

The survey also highlighted that half of Greek consumers (50%) prefer shopping in physical stores, while 45% opt for online purchases. The main reason they choose physical stores is the immediate product pickup, avoiding the long wait for delivery (31%).

On the other hand, the opportunity to access more retailers and deals is the primary reason consumers turn to online shopping.

However, security concerns influence the choice between physical stores and online shopping. Specifically, one in four Greeks who prefer shopping in physical stores believes that in-person shopping helps avoid fraud incidents, which are common online during Black Friday.

Men (15%) are more likely than women (11%) to prefer physical stores for this reason, as well as respondents aged 65 and older (18%).

These findings underscore how consumer behavior in Greece on Black Friday is shaped by a mix of convenience and caution, with many weighing the promise of deals against the risk of being deceived.
