Greek Shipowners Contribute €50mln for Restoration of Damage from Storms Daniel-Elias

Melina Travlos, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, participated in an event organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport during which a plan to restore Mouzaki in Karditsa was presented

The Union of Greek Shipowners contributed 50 million euros in efforts by the Greek state to restore the damage caused by the storms Daniel and Elias in Thessaly in September and October last year.

The Greek state recognized the initiative via Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras.

As part of this effort, Melina Travlos, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, participated in an event organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport during which a plan to restore Mouzaki in Karditsa was presented.

The plan includes funding from the Union of Greek Shipowners for a project to restore and upgrade schools affected by the natural disaster.

During her address, the president of the Union of Greek Shipowners stated: “Our aim as the Greek shipping industry is to contribute, not only to the return to normalcy but also – where possible – to offer even better infrastructure and services. We are and will always be by your side. Our response was immediate and dynamic, once again, to the call of our homeland.”

Travlos said that the first project the Union sought to finance was the restoration of damages to the schools impacted by the floods, adding that the Union would continue by funding energy upgrades, environmental reconstruction, and modernization of electromechanical installations.
