Greek Police Receive Int’l Award for Fight Against Online Piracy

Officers Bantzis Georgios and Delimaris Konstantinos of the Patras Security Directorate of the Greek Police were distinguished for their excellent achievement in the fight against online piracy

Greek police earned international accolades after becoming joint winners for their efforts in the fight against digital piracy, with the prizes awarded by the Audiovisual Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAPA).

More specifically, Officers Bantzis Georgios and Delimaris Konstantinos of the Patras Security Directorate of the Greek Police were distinguished for their excellent achievement in the fight against piracy.

As the official site of AAPA mentions: “Two officers with extensive expertise in police investigations led the special team against organized subscription piracy groups in Greece. The Patras Unit has developed an active and effective presence in the fight against subscription piracy, with a track record of dismantling multiple criminal organizations throughout the Greek territory. In doing so, they have also contributed to enforcement efforts and jurisprudence in piracy cases and a significant contribution to raising public awareness of the positive effects of police raids. As a result of their activities and success, other teams from the Hellenic Police are consulting the Patras team in similar investigations.”

The Audiovisual Anti-Piracy Awards is an annual event organized by AAPA which represents companies involved in the provision of protected audiovisual services, including rights owners and broadcasters, security technology, celebrating exceptional contributions by law enforcement agencies in combatting online piracy.

AAPA aims to tackle piracy by facilitating collaboration amongst members with experienced, focused Working Groups identifying key issues and solutions, identifying and pursuing opportunities to raise awareness and effective communications to discourage piracy, lobbying for better legislation and enforcement, and building private and public partnerships to achieve more effective enforcement.

Some of the Audiovisual Anti-Piracy Alliance’s (AAPA) liaisons include Europol, EUIPO – Observatory on Intellectual Property Infringements and INTERPOL via operational exercises, conferences, ad hoc training, multilingual e-training modules, general audiovisual piracy advice etc.
