A large-scale operation by Greek police on Friday against Roma settlements located near the town of Fyli, in the northwestern part of Attica resulted in 10 arrests and the confiscation of weapons and stolen goods, among other things.

Over 100 law enforcement field agents from various special units, including officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit (OPKE), the Special Suppressive Counter-terrorism Unit (E.K.A.M), and the riot police (M.A.T), raided the homes of members of Roma gangs who were reportedly involved in widespread criminal activities in the wider Athens area and even outside the region.

The coordinated operation included the use of drones, the live feed of which was relayed to the command center of GADA (Attica General Police Directorate), while specially trained dogs are also involved in detecting drugs.

Released video footage shows fully armed special police units entering the suspects’ homes.
