A large-scale operation by Greek Police on Friday that focused on Roma (gypsy) camps located near the municipality of Fyli, in the extreme northwest corner of the Athens-Piraeus agglomeration, resulted in 10 arrests and the seizure of weapons and purported stolen goods, among others.
More 100 law enforcement agents from various units raided several residences belonging to alleged members of crime gangs active throughout the wider Athens area and beyond.
During the raid, police discovered and seized weapons and ammunition, drugs, and 700 gold sovereigns stashed in a tire.
The coordinated operation included the use of drones, the live feed of which was relayed to a police headquarters command center, while K-9 units are also used to detect drugs.
Released video footage shows fully armed special police units entering the suspects’ homes.
