The pupils of a Greek kindergarten in the area of Grammatikos narrowly escaped harm’s way when the roof of their classroom collapsed in the area of Marathonas in the east Attica prefecture.
Fortunately, the scary incident occurred shortly after the children had left for the day. The local opposition council members have repeatedly warned of the dangers, claiming the building was unsuitable to host lessons.
The Mayor of Marathonas expressed his regret over the incident and posted on social media that he had rushed to the site once he was notified and was taking all the necessary actions.
Parents are in distress following the near-tragic incident as the kindergarten building appears to be old and inadequately maintained.
In the past, numerous complaints have been filed regarding the dilapidated state of the infrastructure. Municipal councilors are calling for immediate repairs and strict inspections of the area’s school buildings to prevent future accidents.
