Greek hoteliers announced this week the launch of a special platform offering temporary shelter options in case of emergencies and natural disasters.
Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH) President Alexandros Vassilikos presented the project to Deputy Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Evangelos Tournas.
The new platform was created by the HCH IT department and covers procedures required for temporary shelter in case of natural disaster.

Among others, affected individuals will be able to seek temporary residence on the platform while hoteliers will list the rooms, services and basic necessities they can offer.
In the case of a natural disaster, Greece’s Civil Protection authority will register the incident on the platform which will send automated messages to hotels in the areas affected. Hoteliers will then list room availability.
Affected individuals will receive a text message via the 112 emergency number to apply for temporary accommodation. Civil Protection will also be able to provide assistance.
“In a time of climate crisis, Greek hoteliers are taking hands-on action. We have created a modern digital tool that will provide temporary accommodation and basic necessities to those affected by natural disasters,” said Vassilikos, adding that “cooperation between the private and public sectors is crucial to effectively tackle today’s considerable challenges”.
“Strengthening the sense of security among visitors to Greece is an essential, critical and decisive advantage in establishing the country as a leading tourist destination in a highly competitive global tourism market,” said Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni commenting on the news.
