Greece’s quiet hours for the summer season will be in effect, starting Tuesday, April 1.This seasonal schedule, which will run until September 30, dictates specific hours during which noise levels must be kept to a minimum.
According to the relevant law, the designated quiet hours for the summer season are from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the afternoon and from 11:00 pm at night to 7:00 am in the morning. These regulations aim to ensure a peaceful environment for residents and visitors alike, particularly during the warm months when daily routines often shift to accommodate the heat.
During these hours, activities that generate excessive noise are prohibited. This includes construction work or other noisy operations, unless an emergency necessitates immediate action. In such cases, special permission from the local police department may be granted, particularly for public utility projects.
Loud music whether in private residences or public spaces is also prohibited. Similarly, shouting or any other boisterous behavior that could disturb the peace is strictly forbidden. This applies not only to homes but also to streets, squares, and other communal areas in residential neighborhoods, as well as within public transport vehicles.
In addition, games that produce excessive noise in cafes, pool halls, or other entertainment venues are restricted, while patrons of such establishments are expected to maintain a moderate noise level.
The same principle extends to transport hubs such as bus and taxi stations, where noisy discussions, the loading and unloading of goods, and the revving of vehicle engines while stationary must be kept in check.
Finally, the use of sirens, alarms, or other loud security systems is only permitted in cases of genuine emergencies. Testing these systems or activating them without cause is prohibited.
