Two new government programs designed to help individuals transition to more energy-efficient homes are launching this week.

The “I Save 2025” and “I Change My Water Heater” programs provide subsidies for energy-saving projects, including window replacements and solar water heater installations.

The “I Save 2025” program offers financial support to homeowners seeking to improve the energy efficiency of their primary residences. Eligible upgrades include window replacements, thermal insulation improvements, heating and cooling system upgrades, renewable energy systems for water heating, and smart management or energy storage systems.

The program covers 50% to 100% of costs, depending on the applicant’s income and special circumstances, such as being a victim of natural disasters or part of a vulnerable group (e.g., families with members with disabilities). Priority is given to colder regions.

A total of €434 million will be distributed under the program to achieve energy-efficient homes, with funding from the EU’s RePowerEU plan. Applications open today through the official government portal (https://exoikonomo2025.gov.gr) and must be submitted by March 20, 2025.

The “I Change My Water Heater” program focuses specifically on subsidizing the installation of solar water heaters and heat pumps. Subsidy rates are income-based, covering up to 60% of costs for solar water heaters and 50% for heat pumps.

Applications for this program open on January 13, 2025. Approved applicants will receive vouchers for eligible equipment and installation services. The purchased equipment must be obtained from approved suppliers, and the installation must be completed within 30 days of voucher issuance.

Both programs aim to enhance energy efficiency and promote sustainable practices across Greece.
