Google has released its annual Year in Search report, which highlights the most popular search terms in Greece and around the world.

In Greece, the most searched person in 2023 was rapper Sin Boy, followed by SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis and actor Odysseas Stamoulis. The most searched news event was the earthquake in Istanbul, which struck with a magnitude of 9.0 on the Richter scale.

In the sports category for Greece, the most searched athletes were basketball players Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kostas Sloukas. The most searched football match was the UEFA Champions League qualifying round match between Panathinaikos and Maccabi Haifa.

Globally, the war between Israel and Hamas topped the Google Search trends in 2023.

The second most popular searched topic after the war was the disappearance of the Titan submarine in June, which was carrying 26 crew members, followed by the third most searched topic, the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria in February which caused the death of more than 35,000 people and left millions homeless.
