Two separate rail mishaps were reported in Greece on Saturday, with the first involving the newly inaugurated Thessaloniki Metro line and the other the antique narrow-gauge Pelion railway in central Greece.
In Thessaloniki, one of the new metro carriages malfunctioned and stopped inside the underground, midday between stations. Video later posted on social media showed passengers exiting the cabs and walking along the line to reach the next station.
Meanwhile, the train on the Pelion line derailed on Saturday afternoon after a bolder fell on the track. No injuries were reported, as the mishap occurred at a very low speed.
Thirty-seven passengers aboard the train, mostly used for sightseeing along the picturesque mountainous route were transported to a nearby station by buses, provided by the local municipality and operator Hellenic Train.
