Two separate rail mishaps were reported in Greece on Saturday, with the first involving the newly inaugurated Thessaloniki Metro line and the other the antique narrow-gauge Pelion railway in central Greece.
In the northern metropolis of Thessaloniki, one of the new metro carriages malfunctioned and abruptly stopped inside the underground, midway between two stations. Video later posted on social media showed passengers exiting the cabs and walking along the underground line’s side to reach the next station.
Meanwhile, the conventional train on the Pelion line partially derailed on Saturday afternoon after a bolder fell on the track. No injuries were reported, as the mishap occurred at a very low speed.
Thirty-seven passengers aboard the train, mostly used for sightseeing along the picturesque and mountainous Pelion route were transported to a nearby station by buses, provided by the local municipality and operator Hellenic Train.
