The first civil lawsuit by relatives of a victim of the Tempi rail disaster in February 2023 will be heard by a three-justice first instance court in Athens on Friday.
Relatives of one of the locomotive engineers that perished in the two-train collision have filed suit against both the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), the state-run owner and operator of all rolling stock tracks and railroad infrastructure in the country (sans the greater Athens-Piraeus area), as well as private Hellenic Train, a subsidiary of Italy’s FS. The latter operated the ill-fated passenger train and freight train running on OSE’s lines on the specific evening.
The plaintiffs are asking for one million euros in compensation for non-pecuniary losses and suffering due to the death of their relative.
