Greek police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man who killed his former partner in yet another incident of femicide in the city of Agrinio in western Greece. The victim, a 43-year-old mother of three children, was fatally shot on Monday near the local football stadium.

According to reports, the woman was shot at point-blank range in the abdomen and was immediately rushed to hospital, bleeding profusely.

The police were alerted at 7:35 pm, and officers arrived promptly at the scene. Upon their arrival, the woman was still conscious, reportedly stating, “My ex-partner shot me.”

Despite the doctors’ efforts at the hospital, they were unable to save her, with the woman passing away.

The police focused their investigation on the 30-year-old young man from a village in the nearby area as the primary suspect for the fatal attack on the 43-year-old woman.

On Tuesday, the young man was located in a house where he reportedly had been hiding, and police were urging him to surrender peacefully, as he was believed to be armed. Authorities have also found his car, but his mobile phone remains switched off.

The suspect, a professional driver, was believed to have been in a troubled relationship with the victim. Their relationship had reportedly deteriorated significantly, with the man allegedly threatening the woman, leading her to file a complaint against him.

The woman had sought protection from the police and legal action against the 30-year-old. The police had even confiscated three hunting licenses from him as a preventive measure.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court on November 15 for the complaint filed against him.

It is worth noting that the mother of the 43-year-old victim revealed that her daughter was preparing to get engaged, a decision her ex-partner was absolutely unwilling to accept.

The last time a femicide incident in Greece was recorded was in June when 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva was killed in a fatal domestic violence case, which shocked Greek public opinion.
