Greek Police will implement extra road measures ahead of the commemoration of Monday’s October 28 national holiday across the country. The road safety measures have been scheduled from Friday through Monday, Oct. 28. The measures will also include traffic restriction on specific vehicles.
The traffic department’s plan includes the implementation of safety regulations across Greece’s road network which includes heightened traffic policing, specifically targeting areas with high accident rates, and focused controls at key urban entrances and exits with heavy traffic flow.
Key measures will include traffic adjustments based on the unique traffic conditions of each area and increased surveillance on roads with high accident rates and at major urban centers with heavy vehicle flow.
There will also be extra pedestrian traffic officers assigned at key intersections to prevent congestion, as well as traffic teams that will focus on enforcing high-risk violations, such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police presence at airports, ports, and stations will be reinforced to manage passenger flows.
Furthermore, there will be localized traffic controls in areas hosting public celebrations and more officers present at toll stations to facilitate traffic flow and provide driver assistance.
During the enforcement period, police personnel and resources, including patrol cars, motorcycles, and unmarked vehicles, will be on high alert and fully equipped to monitor Greece’s roads effectively.
To improve safety and ease traffic flow during the celebrations, additional local measures will include a ban on trucks over 3.5 tons.
• Outbound Traffic Ban: Effective Friday, October 25, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Saturday, Oct. 26, from 08:00 to 1:00 pm.
• Inbound Traffic Ban: Effective Monday, October 28, from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
