Elon Musk once again posted a comment on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting the concerning demographic crisis Greece is facing. This is the second time that the tech multi-billionaire has taken an interest in the low birth rates in Greece after his tweet last April, when he said Greece was experiencing a population collapse.
“Wow, almost twice as many people died as there were born babies in Greece,” Musk responded above a retweet citing an article published in UK news outlet express.co.uk, which had picked up the story from Euronews.

As Euronews reports, in 2022, the country recorded less than 77,000 births, the lowest in almost a century, while deaths nearly doubled that number, reaching 140,000. “Nothing seems to indicate that this trend will change anytime soon,” the report says.
The online article also quoted Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, warning that “the demographic collapse is literally becoming an existential challenge for our future.”
In April, Elon Musk initially referred the matter, stating “Greece is one of dozens of countries experiencing population collapse due to low birth rates” in a post he retweeted about the country’s birth rate collapse.
During the 9th Delphi Economic Forum (DEF) in April, a presentation titled “The Demographic Crisis and Greek Development” outlined some key points and challenges of the demographic crisis, acknowledging the country was indeed in dire straits.
As the presentation noted, Greece faces declining fertility rates, an aging population due to increased life expectancy, and a shrinking workforce, which are not new phenomena but have been ongoing for decades and are expected to intensify in the current and future decades.
