Food delivery workers of private company eFood, one of Greece’s largest delivery app food companies, are going on a 24-hour strike on Friday demanding higher pay and better working conditions.
The employees, who have also declared a work stoppage for tomorrow, Saturday, December 28th between 6pm-11pm, alleged the company was planning to “eliminate” their social security rights.
The delivery workers are also demanding that eFood commit to direct employment, bypassing current subcontractors. They are also advocating for a minimum hourly wage and accident insurance coverage for freelancers.
The workers are also calling for health and safety measures to be guaranteed for all employees, with personal protective equipment provided free of charge to both freelancers and salaried workers as mandated by law. Additional demands include hazard pay, marriage allowances, and hearing protection for those working in call centers.
Strike Rally
The workers plan to gather today at 11:00 AM at the intersection of Kifisias and Alexandras Avenues, followed by a motorcycle procession to the company. Another rally is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 PM at the same location.
