Greece will experience a mix of dust, rain, and strong southern winds this week, as temperatures finally align with the season, expected to exceed 20°C.

According to meteorologists, significant rainfall is forecast from midweek onward and will continue over the following days in most parts of the country. Southern winds and dust transport will persist throughout the week, with rain intensifying from Thursday onward.

High Dust Concentration in the Atmosphere

The latest forecasts from meteo.gr and the National Observatory of Athens indicate that dust concentrations will be high, especially over the Ionian Sea and mainland Greece—excluding Eastern Macedonia and Thrace—until Tuesday, March 25. Thereafter, dust levels are expected to rise across the rest of the country.

Weather Forecast for Monday, March 24

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) predicts increased cloud cover nationwide on Monday. Localized showers will occur intermittently in the western, central, and northern regions, with isolated thunderstorms or downpours in the northwest.

Visibility will be locally limited in northern areas during the early morning hours. African dust transport will primarily affect western and southern regions.

Winds will blow from the south at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching 7 to 8 Beaufort in the seas, and possibly up to 9 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.

Temperatures will rise slightly, reaching 18°C in northern Greece, 19–22°C in most other areas, and up to 23–24°C in western Greece, the Dodecanese, and northern Crete.

Weather on Greek Independence Day (March 25)

On Tuesday, March 25, localized showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the Ionian, Epirus, western mainland, Macedonia, and gradually Thrace. The rest of the country will see periods of increased cloud cover with occasional light rain in mainland areas.

Dust transport from Africa will continue, mainly affecting the west and south.
Southern winds will persist at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching 7 Beaufort in the west.

Temperatures will drop slightly in northwestern regions, reaching 18–19°C in northern Greece and the Ionian, 21–22°C in central and southern Greece, and up to 23–24°C in northern Crete and the Dodecanese.
