Employees at food delivery company Wolt will be holding demonstrations in central Athens, Patra, and Thessaloniki on Friday, October 11, as part of a 24-hour nationwide strike announced this week.
The delivery staff are calling for the implementation of a collective labor agreement. According to media reports, employees at efood delivery company are also expected to join the action.
A gathering and motorcycle rally are scheduled Friday, October 11, at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Kifissias and Alexandras avenues.
In Thessaloniki, Wolt couriers will meet at Aristotelous Square at 1.30 p.m. and in Patra at Georgiou Square at 11 a.m.
Two years ago, Wolt did away with its fixed fee per distribution project and mileage compensation and introduced an algorithm-based payment system, which employees claim has been “disastrous” slashing their wages and boosting company profits.
Founded in 2014 in Finland, Wolt provides on-demand delivery services. Through its app, users connect with local restaurants, grocery stores, and other retailers, and order food and various goods for home delivery or pickup.
In the last few years, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and after, e-delivery platforms in Greece have evolved into a highly competitive market segment.
