Covid: 229 New Admissions to Hospitals in the Last 24 hours

Health experts advised people to use protective masks in all indoors areas and to avoid crowds

Greece has recorded a spike in Covid-19 and respiratory infection hospitalizations over the last 24 hours, the National Public Health Organization (NPHO) reported Monday.

Over the last 24 hours, 229 new cases of coronavirus were registered, 64 of them in Athens.

At the same time, 142 people were discharged from hospitals.

There are currently 1,395 Covid-19 patients in hospitals, plus a further 83 intubated in ICUs.

Experts warn that measures to prevent the further spread of the virus should be adhered to and advised that face masks should be used in all medical facilities, including hospitals and health centers as well as care homes for the elderly. Vulnerable groups should get vaccinated with the latest version of the vaccine.

Experts also warned that the general population must observe preventive measures to prevent the virus spreading further.

“The number of patients with coronavirus has more than tripled, and hospitals are under considerable pressure,” assistant professor of Hygiene and Epidemiology at the University of Athens Gikas Magiorkinis told state broadcaster ERT.
