Greek health authorities are advising people in vulnerable groups to avoid closed spaces and adhere to hygiene protocols as the number of COVID-19 cases increase.
The National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported on Thursday, 575 new hospital admissions due to the virus, 13 in intensive care and 21 deaths in the seven days to July 7. EODY’s report covers SARS-CoV-2, RSV and COVID related incidents
According to epidemiologist Gkikas Magiorkinis, the current wave of COVID is expected to die down by the end of August. He went to attribute the increase in cases “to different strains of COVID-19 which have the same mutations and have been dubbed FLiRT”.
He added that the new “summer” wave does not appear to lead to heavy infections.
He went on to add that COVID vaccines should be repeated once a year in the fall.
General COVID-19 symptoms may include high temperature, coughing, aches, exhaustion, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, and loss or change to sense of smell or taste.
