Cold Front to Bring Rain and Some Snow to Greece

Rain, snow and cold are expected to set the wintery scene for most of Greece over the weekend as November comes to an end.

An incoming cold front is expected to bring heavy rains and some snow to Greece over the weekend, according to the latest weather forecasts.

The national weather service is forecasting rain and thunderstorms, which may be severe in some regions, mainly in the west, north, and the eastern Aegean over the upcoming weekend as well as a drop in temperatures.

Snow is expected in the mountainous regions of central and northern Greece and in most of Western Macedonia.

Visibility will be limited.

The director of the National Meteorological Center (EMY) Theodoros Kolydas said sunny weather will continue into Thursday accompanied by a further rise in temperatures. On Wednesday, temperatures will reach 17 degrees Celsius in the northern parts of the country and 20 degrees Celsius on the mainland. The weather in Athens will be sunny and warm with changing winds.

Starting on Friday, said Kolydas, there will be a change of weather starting in the west and north with heavy rain expected in most of the country over the weekend. Temperatures are expected to drop as gusty winds prevail.

Unstable weather with rain and thunderstorms continues into Saturday and Sunday with snow fall forecast for the mountainous areas of central and northern Greece, as well as for Evia and the Peloponnese. The temperature will drop across Greece.

Via his X account Kolydas referred to Nov. 26, 1976 when Athens was covered in snow, a rare sight.
