The city of Athens will participate in the celebrations of “Earth Hour” this Saturday, aiming to raise awareness about global warming. As part of the initiative, lights will be turned off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM at key landmarks in the Greek capital, including the City Hall in Kotzia Square, the municipal buildings on Liosion and Patision streets, the Technopolis cultural complex, the Kypseli Municipal Market, the Maria Callas Museum, and the Athens Shelter of the Reception and Solidarity Center.
The city’s administration is encouraging residents to take part in this symbolic gesture by switching off their home lights for one hour, joining millions of people in over 180 countries in a global message of environmental protection.
This year’s “Earth Hour” in Greece is dedicated to the sea, highlighting its crucial role in sustaining life and preserving thousands of marine species.
Earth Hour, organized by WWF, is a global grassroots movement uniting people to take action on environmental issues and protect the planet. Engaging a massive mainstream community, Earth Hour was famously started as a lights out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
