The body of a British tourist was recovered on Friday near a rugged area outside the mountainous town of Kalavryta, in the northwest part of the Peloponnese province of southern Greece.
According to the police report, the man, 67, had gone plane spotting with a friend at a remote area at the Mega Spilaio site, when he passed out.
As local media reports, the two men, both photographers, had arrived at the gorge to photograph aircraft, as the Andravida air base in nearby Ilia prefecture was hosting the last day of NATO’s Ramstein Flag 2024 exercise
When the victim passed out, his friend immediately called for help.
Firefighters from Kalavryta, police and an ambulance arrived at the gorge, where they located the hikers. The 67-year-old was transported by ambulance to Kalavryta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The body of the 67-year-old British tourist is expected to be transferred to a coroner’s office in the city of Patras for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
