Greek Minister on Athens Bomb Blast: ‘We Might be Dealing with Young Generation of Wannabe Terrorists’

The Minister of Citizen Protection said, "We have finished with major organizations such as 'November 17'"

Commenting on the bomb explosion in a central Athens apartment last week, which led to the death of one man and the serious injury of a woman, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrisochoidis, surmised Greek authorities were dealing with a group of young people who “aspired to be the next generation of terrorists”.

Speaking to Greek television station Skai TV on Monday morning, Chrisochoidis described the explosive device as “a monstrous” bomb with condensed explosive material,” adding that the structural integrity of the whole apartment block in the district of Ampelokipoi, where the explosion had occurred, was deemed unsafe by technical inspectors following the blast.

Chrisochoidis emphasized, “We are dealing with an effort by a group of young people aspiring to form a ‘third generation’ of terrorism in Greece, at a completely different time. They are attempting to operate in the same way, following a similar modus operandi and pursuing similar political objectives, which is, in itself, a failure.”

When asked if terrorism in Greece has come to an end, the Minister of Citizen Protection responded, “We have indeed finished with major organizations such as ‘November 17’ and ‘Revolutionary Struggle.’ However, terrorism never truly ends. The true enemy of social peace and security is complacency.”
