Bad Weather Persists Friday; Thunderstorms in Athens

Thunderstorms developed in Attica early in the morning, but is expected to subside as the day progresses. Athens should expect a mix of clouds and rain throughout the day, with temperatures between 13°C and 18°C.

The weather will remain unsettled on Friday, as the new weather front officially set in, with showers, rain, and isolated thunderstorms affecting many regions across the country, including the islands. Northern Greece, the western mainland, and Epirus will largely escape the wet weather, however.

Emergency 112 have sounded on Rhodes and Patmos urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

Temperatures will range from 10–12°C in the northern areas, 13–20°C in the central and southern mainland, and the islands.

Storms may be severe in the Dodecanese but will gradually weaken by afternoon. By evening, precipitation is expected to stop in the Cyclades and Crete.

In the rest of the country, expect partly cloudy skies with occasional rain in the western regions. Winds will blow from the south at 3–4 Beaufort, increasing to 5 Beaufort in some seas later in the day. Temperatures will remain stable, showing no significant changes.

Rain and scattered thunderstorms will develop in the Ionian and western mainland early on Sunday, spreading to northern mainland regions as the day progresses. Thunderstorms in the Ionian and western mainland could be locally severe.

Elsewhere, there will be periods of cloud cover with possible rain across other mainland areas, the Cyclades, Crete, and islands of the eastern Aegean. Southern mainland areas may also experience isolated thunderstorms.

Winds will pick up, blowing from the south at 4–6 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 7–8 Beaufort in the seas. Temperatures will rise slightly nationwide.
