Authorities are investing a complaint that a well in the central Macedonian region of Imathia is contaminated with deadly levels of arsenic, according to reports at SKAI news.
The complaint was initiated by a farmer who said that many of his animals died after drinking water from the well.
Speaking with a local journalist, named Vasilis Simopoulos, the farmer added that the well is a borehole and was surrounded by boxes of chemicals used by farmers.
The farmer claims that other local farmers regularly come to the well to fill their water tanks and dispose of their chemicals.
The problematic practice has gotten so bad that the third layer of subsoil is so contaminated that the water cannot be drank, said the report.
Simopoulos also highlighted that the water was subjected to testing and the results show that arsenic levels have reached 77.5, which is well above normal values of 10.
