In preparation for the Greek orthodox Easter holiday, the Athens Trade Association has announced that it will extend shopping hours in the capital.
As in each year, people in the city will have extra time to purchase chocolate easter eggs and their Easter candles ahead of the most significant holiday of the year for the orthodox religion.
Specifically, shops will be open from April 25-May 2 from 9:00am until 9:00pm. Shops are normally closed on Sundays in Greece, but on Sunday April 28 they will be open between 11:00am until 4:00pm.
Shops will operate on Good Friday, which falls on May 3 this year, from 1:00pm until 7:00pm and on May 4, Holy Saturday, from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
It is no surprise that shops will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday, but they will also be closed on Tuesday May 7 because this year Greece has exceptionally moved the Labor Day holiday to May 7 instead of May 1.
