A solidary bazaar organized by an Athens-based Facebook page to support homeless people and handicapped stray animals is set to take place this weekend in the town of Ilion in the western part of the Athens agglomeration, starting on December 15 to December 17.
The initiative is organized by Vasilis Tzigkouras who has dedicated the last eight years of his life to assisting pets with mobility problems by creating custom wheelchairs for them. To expedite the adoption process, Tzigkouras contributes to the quality of life of stray animals by generously donating his creations.
All funds collected from the bazaar will be directed towards the stray animals’ wheelchairs project and another noteworthy initiative The Old Book Store of Homeless (in Greek “Paleovivliopolio ton Astegon”). The latter has been run by Leonidas Koursoumis for approximately four years and provides a dignified workplace for individuals who fell into homelessness or prolonged unemployment.
Visitors interested in contributing to this solidary bazaar will discover a variety of interesting items for purchase including t-shirts with delightful stamps, handmade Christmas decorations and crafts, artisanal candles, books from The Old Book Store of Homeless, children’s books by Katerina Papapostolou, and lottery tickets.
The bazaar hosted at Tzigkouras’ workplace will open its doors to all visitors and their pets on December 15 at noon and on December 16 and 17 at 10 AM, located at 12 Agias Aikaterinis Street in Ilion. For more information, interested visitors can visit the Bazar Event Page.
