The Municipality of Athens and Airbnb.org have launched an emergency accommodation program to support residents of Santorini and other Cycladic islands affected by ongoing seismic activity. The initiative provides free temporary housing in Athens for those forced to leave their homes due to safety concerns.

Emergency Housing for Displaced Residents

Residents of Santorini, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios seeking temporary relocation can call the emergency hotline 1595 to apply for accommodation. The Municipality of Athens will process requests and assist in securing Airbnb-listed properties funded by Airbnb.org and its partners.

The program initially covers ten days of free accommodation for up to 200 families, with further assistance to be evaluated based on ongoing needs.

Those wishing to assist can offer their properties for free or reduced-cost stays through Airbnb.org, which has waived all service fees for bookings under this emergency response.

Coordinated Response to the Crisis

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas emphasized the city’s swift action in response to the disaster:

“From the very first moment, we opened the Municipality of Athens’ children’s camps in Agios Andreas (St. Andrew), where we are already hosting 130 people. Now, we are taking an additional step by collaborating with Airbnb.org to offer free accommodation to 200 families.”

The initiative highlights solidarity and rapid mobilization in the face of natural disasters, providing safe housing solutions for those affected.
