Rallies are being organized in Greece on Friday as the no-confidence vote debate continues in Greek Parliament, which will result in the closing of several metro stations in downtown Athens as a precautionary measure.

Starting at 12 pm students and university associations will hold a protest, while at 7 pm labor and trade unions as well as federations will hold their own demonstrations.

Metro stations at Syntagma and Panepistimio will be closed from 10am and until futher notice due to the scheduled gatherings for Tempi.

Student Protests in Athens and Thessaloniki

At 12 pm in Syntagma, a rally is scheduled at Propylaea, organized by students and university associations demanding justice for the victims of the Tempi tragedy.

Student associations that have announced their participation so far include:

  • The Faculties of Philosophy, Education (Primary and Preschool), Geology, Dentistry, and Sociology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA).
  • The Department of Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
  • The Student Associations of Athens University of Economics and Business (ASOEE) and the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASKT).
  • The School of Engineering at the University of West Attica (PaDA).

High school students will also take to the streets, following a call from the Coordinating Committee of Athens Students.

In Thessaloniki, students have planned a gathering in front of the Venizelos Statue at 12 pm.

Protests in Other Cities
Student and university rallies are scheduled for Friday, March 7, across Thessaly:

  • In Larissa, at 12 p.m. in the central square.
  • In Volos, at 11 a.m. at the University Dome.
  • In Trikala, at 12 p.m. in Rigas Feraios Square.

Calls for participation have also been made by students and university groups in Western Greece:

  • In Patras, at 12 p.m. in Georgiou Square.
  • In Agrinio, at 12 p.m. in Democracy Square.
  • In Pyrgos, at 12 p.m. in the central square.
  • In Argostoli, at 12 p.m. in Vallianou Square.
  • In Zakynthos, at 10:30 a.m. in Agios Markos Square.

Additional student demonstrations are planned in Crete:

  • In Heraklion, at 11 a.m. in Eleftherias Square.
  • In Chania, at 11 a.m. in Municipal Market Square.

Labor Protests in Syntagma in the Evening
At 7 pm, labor centers, federations, and trade unions will hold another rally outside the Greek Parliament as discussions on the no-confidence motion reach their peak.

The additional mobilization was announced by Giannis Tasioulas, president of the Federation of Construction Workers. He stated that the demonstrations would take place in two phases: one at noon with student and university associations, and another at 7 p.m. in Syntagma Square.

Teachers Join the Protests
The Greek Federation of Secondary Education State School Teachers (OLME) has also announced its participation in both rallies.

Alongside the student associations of Athens and the Coordinating Committee of Athens Students, OLME has urged teachers, students, and university faculty members to take part in the mobilization. Additionally, OLME has called on its members to join the demonstration organized by federations and unions from both the public and private sectors at 7 p.m.
