Athens Lifts ‘Traffic Ring’ Restriction From Today until October

The 'traffic ring' restriction is designed to limit the flow of cars heading to the center of Athens throughout the year

From today, July 22, the traffic ring restriction for downtown Athens is lifted and all private vehicles are allowed to circulate freely in Greece’s capital city.

The traffic ring regulates the circulation of vehicles in downtown Athens, in accordance with the license plate number of the vehicle and the day of the month.

According to the joint ministerial decision, the restriction officially ended on July 19 at 3 p.m and will be reinstated in October.

In effect from mid-autumn to mid-summer, the traffic ring restrictions applies from Monday to Thursday between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

During these times, private passenger cars and private trucks with a maximum allowable loaded vehicle mass of up to 2,200 kilograms are allowed to circulate on alternate days based on the last digit of their license plate number: even dates for vehicles ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8, and odd dates for vehicles ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

The ring in Athens is delineated by the following avenues and streets: Alexandras Avenue – Zacharof – Mesogeion Avenue – Fidiou – Michalakopoulou – Spyrou Merkouri – Vriaxidos – Ymittou – Ilias Iliou – Andreas Frantzis – Syngrou Avenue – Chamosternas – Piraeus – Iera Odos – Konstantinoupoleos Avenue – Achilleos – Karaiskaki Square – Karolou – Marnis – 28th October (Patission) – Alexandras Avenue.
