Athens Holds Annual Comic-Book Convention this Weekend

AthensCon has been held in Greece since 2015 and is heavily influenced by Comic-Cons and other pop-culture conventions worldwide

Athens will host its 7th annual comic-book convention, dubbed ‘AthensCon,’ in a three-day event this weekend which is designed for all ages, according to the event organizers.

From December 1st through the 3rd the Tae Kwon Do Stadium in the Municipality of Palaio Faliro, located south of Athens, will be transformed into a “pop-culture haven.”

Organizers say that, every year since its founding in 2015, the event attracts thousands of fans from all around Europe who get to dress up as superheroes, take photos in front of displays of their favorite characters, play video games and board games, meet famous artists and get signed copies of their favorite books.

Notable stars will also attend including US Hollywood star Eric Roberts, who has appeared in over 700 films including the Dark Knight, Italian comic writer Luca Luca Montagliani, known for Vintagerotika, and Canadian comic book artists Cary Nord who has been awarded for the series “Conan the Barbarian.”

This weekend’s itinerary includes speeches and panels by special guests, exhibitions, competitions, workshops and, according to organizers, “exciting surprises” for all event goers.
