Aviation enthusiasts will descend on the Tanagra Airbase, north of Athens, to experience a thrilling airshow for the Athens Flying Week 2024, which kicked off today, Saturday, September 14.
It is the largest air show in the Balkans, with over 500,000 dedicated fans worldwide. In an interview on the program “Weekend from 5,” organizer Panos Podimatas stated that this year there has been a greater emphasis on the static exhibition.
This year, the program will host different types of aircraft from multiple countries, making the show a unique experience for aviation aficionados, noted the event organizer.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the Italian Air Force’s F-35 up close, which is being presented in Greece for the first time, as well as the American Cobra helicopter, also making its debut at the event.
A significant part of the Athens Flying Week program includes impressive flight demonstrations, including spectacular aerial dogfights between two French Rafales.
The Hellenic Air Force will participate with its internationally famed “Zeus”, while performances by the “Saudi Hawks” from Saudi Arabia and the “Petrulakis” team from Spain are also expected to be equally impressive.
“This is an event that meets the needs of the entire family,” he emphasized, noting that ticket prices are affordable—€15 for adults and €7.50 for children. Gates will open at 9 AM, with the main program set to begin at 11 AM.
The event will also see the participation of aviation clubs, where individuals of all ages can begin flight lessons, even later in life.
