‘Apocalypto’ Star Jailed in Athens After Run-in With Police

Actor's side points to misunderstanding, saying 42-year-old Rudy Youngblood didn't know that two men who approached him were police officers

The lead actor in Mel Gibson’s epic 2006 saga “Apocalypto”, Rudy Youngblood, reportedly remained in Greek police custody on Thursday after his arrest roughly a week ago outside an Athens-area precinct.

According to press reports, police have filed weapons possession and resisting arrest charges against the 42-year-old Texas native after he was stopped in the early morning hours of Dec. 27 for allegedly being intoxicated.

Police claim Youngblood pulled out a pocket knife to threaten officers during the incident.

Conversely, sources close to the Hollywood actor said he didn’t understand that the two men who approached him in the north-central Athens district of Galatsi were police officers, the reason he did not cooperate with them.

According to reports, Youngblood has been in Greece since last August as part of a film production’s shooting.

No information was given on why remains jailed, as an arraignment hearing is usually held within 24 to 48 hours to determine whether a suspect’s incarceration continues, or if a conditional release is granted pending trial and after charges – usually at the misdemeanor level – are filed, or if an individual is released without any charge filed.
