Another 3 Arrests in Wake of Halkidiki Beach Bar Shooting

Another three arrests were reported on Sunday in relation to a violent altercation on Friday evening at a Halkidiki-area beach bar.

Specifically, the 55-year-old owner of the establishment, a Bulgarian national, was arrested along with two bar patrons injured by during the incident. All three remain hospitalized and under police guard.

The specific beach bar is located at the Hanioti site, in the western-most Kassandra peninsula of Halkidiki prefecture, itself one of the premier tourism destinations in northern Greece.

Previously, another five suspects were arrested in the violent incident, where gunshots were fired and people injured. All five are Bulgarian nationals as well, who face felony charges.

One of the victims, and among the now indicted suspects, was seriously injured in the chest and remains in critical condition after being hit by gunfire. Another man was stabbed and the third, the bar owner, was severely beaten.

Authorities are investigating the possibility of a “settling of scores” involving a Bulgaria-based organized crime ring.
