The datest developments in a case that shocked public opinion in Greece, where a teenage boy tragically died at a Halkidiki amusement park after being thrown from a ride, has led to the closure of the company that issued it a safety certification shortly before the accident.
Previous reports revealed that while the amusement park in Halkidiki was operating without a license for well over a month, a company had visited the park on the day of the accident and deemed the park ‘safe’ without putting the rides into operation.
The inspectors viewed the very ride that resulted in the 19-year-old male’s death, and despite visible signs of poor maintenance, did not turn the ride on to check that it was functioning properly.
According to a report at MEGA, the company that certified the Halkidiki amusement park, certifies all amusement parks in northern Greece.
According to a decision by Greek authorities on September 10, the operation of the certification company has been suspended.
Family of Dead Teen Frustrated with Justice System
The father of the dead teen has been speaking regularly with media to update it on the progress of the case and to express his frustration with the Greek justice system.
“I travel 500kim every day to push for a quick resolution. I see prosecutors imprisoning people in other cases, but here, everyone is still free,” revealed the exasperated father to MEGA TV.
The family has decided to take matters into its own hands and is actively involved in gathering evidence and pressuring local authorities to keep pace.
According to the father, the family itself had demanded that the safety certification company submit the documentation which led to its abovementioned closure.
Additionally, the family has also recently discovered that the park was operating without water, which is another violation, said the father to MEGA.
“Either the state will clarify the matter, or I will resolve it myself. The mockery ends here,” threatened the dad.
“A child was killed. Shouldn’t some people be arrested? Lawlessness is rampant and we are going back and forth to the graves. I won’t allow that. They have a few days until the reports are out. Starting Monday, when I release all the findings, people will cry. They don’t understand what they’ve done. They shattered a child’s skull for fun. The goal is for a beautiful 20-year-old not to end up in a morgue because some people enjoyed it. Since photos of the child’s fall have leaked, I’ll make sure they don’t sleep for months.”
