Greek air traffic controllers have announced their participation in the 24-hour nationwide strike organized by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation on February 28. The strike, affecting the entire country, is part of broader protests marking the anniversary of the Tempi train tragedy.
In an official statement, the Hellenic Air Traffic Controllers Association urged its members to join the ADEDY-led strike from on Friday, February 28, 2025.
The GSEE emphasized that its affiliated organizations will coordinate demonstrations nationwide, calling on all workers to take to the streets in pursuit of their shared objectives. It also urged public transport workers to continue operating, even if on strike themselves, to facilitate citizens’ participation in the protests.
The public servant union, on its part, called on federations, regional branches, and unions to ensure the strike’s success, demanding full accountability for the tragedy, including its causes and those responsible.
The strike will have a major impact on transportation.
• Ships will remain docked, as the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation has declared a 24-hour nationwide strike from 00:01 to 24:00 on February 28.
• Flights will be grounded, as air traffic controllers will join the industrial action.
During the strike, only a limited number of essential flights will be allowed, including:
• Overflights within the Athens FIR
• Flights carrying heads of state or government officials
• Military and emergency flights
• Hospital, humanitarian aid, and search & rescue missions
Additionally, taxi drivers will hold a three-hour work stoppage from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, further amplifying the strike’s impact.
