Aegean Airlines has offered passengers two primary options following the cancellation of all flights to and from London Heathrow Airport, on Friday, March 21. The disruptions were caused by a power outage resulting from a fire at an electricity substation.
The Greek airline informed affected passengers that they can either rebook on alternative flights to reach their final destination or request a full refund. If neither of these options is suitable, passengers are encouraged to contact Aegean’s customer service for further assistance.
Flight Cancellations
Following the incident, Aegean Airlines issued a statement confirming the cancellations: “London Heathrow Airport is currently completely closed due to a power supply failure. As a result, our flights A3602, A3603, A3604, and A3605 scheduled for March 21 to and from London Heathrow have been canceled. All affected passengers will be informed of alternative solutions. For any further information, please contact our call center at +30 2106261000.”
According to the statement, four Aegean flights were impacted by the blackout. The airline assured passengers that it would continue providing updates on its official website as long as the issue persists.
Fire Under Control
The fire at the electricity substation, which led to the shutdown of London Heathrow Airport, has been brought under control, according to a statement from the capital’s fire brigade.
“We have successfully contained the fire and prevented further spread,” said Fire Brigade spokesperson in an official statement. “We will remain on site throughout the day to assist National Grid.”
The London Fire Brigade also confirmed via social media platform X that fire investigators would begin their inquiry into the cause of the blaze. “We will continue to work closely with our partners to minimize disruption and support the community,” the statement added.
Aegean Airlines is closely monitoring the situation and advises passengers to check its official website for further updates.
