The ExxonMobil/HELLENiQ ENERGY consortium that conducts oil exploration in Greece, specifically in the maritime area southwest of Crete, has officially activated the second phase of exploration in the area.


The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reports that Greece’s inflation rate reached 2.9% in September 2024, a slight decline from 3% in August of the same year. Looking ahead, Greece’s inflation based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices is projected to decrease significantly to 2.8% in 2024 and further to 2.1% in 2025, down from 4.2% in 2023.


The cause of the death of footballer George Baldock, whose body was found Wednesday night in his pool at his residence in the upscale Athens district of Glyfada, was determined to be drowning, following an autopsy on Thursday. According to reports, the possibility of foul play was ruled out, after the examining coroner found that there were no signs of injuries or bruises on the deceased’s body, concluding he had died after he had swallowed water.


October 10 is World Mental Health Day, and though there have been several reforms made to mental and psychiatric health services in Greece, experts point to ongoing issues. “There are some really serious problems with our psychiatric health care system,” Michalis Yiannnakos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers, told To Vima International Edition.  “Even though the EU and our state have given so much money, we haven’t managed to meet patient needs.”
