German Deutsche Bank maintained a “buy” recommendation on Greek banks while raising its target price from €9.85 to €10.15, noting the sector posted solid results in the third quarter of 2024. The German multinational investment bank highlights Greek banks are in the position to manage a possible cut in interest rates by the European Central Bank (ECB) even if this occurs at a sooner-than-expected date.


To meet the holiday demand, shops in Athens and Piraeus will be shifting to a holiday schedule starting on Thursday, Dec. 12 through to Jan. 3. According to an Athens Chamber of Commerce announcement, stores in Athens and the wider Attica region will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.


Greece made history this week after reaching 100 organ donations in 2024 marking the fourth consecutive increase in the last few years. One hundred deceased donors this year have saved the lives of 225 patients through organ transplants while 106 living donations have gone to an equal number of recipients within their families or circle of friends, surpassing all previous records.


Athens was named “World’s Leading Cultural City Destination” during the Grand Final Gala Ceremony of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2024 which took place in Madeira, Portugal on Nov. 24. Athens was awarded for its rich cultural heritage and the unique experiences it offers millions of travelers who visit the Greek capital each year.


Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Greece and Cyprus “align their common goals on a path of development and prosperity,” emphasizing the strategic importance of the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project, during a joint press conference with the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides in the framework of the 2nd Greece-Cyprus Intergovernmental Conference.
