In a recent survey conducted by MEGA TV, it has been revealed that a four-member family requires a monthly budget ranging between 700 and 1,110 euros for essential groceries from both the supermarket and the butcher shop.
For food expenses alone, one needs to spend between 150 and 300 euros on meat, 100 to 200 euros on dairy and deli products, 100 to 200 euros on fruits and vegetables, 50 to 100 euros on pasta, rice, and bread, and 70 to 180 euros on snacks, juices, and soft drinks.
Families with children express that an entire monthly salary is now dedicated solely to covering the fundamental necessities for their daily table and household needs.
According to estimates, food prices in 2024 are expected to increase by an average of 4.6%, adding to the revaluations of 2023 that exceeded an average of 7.2%. Canned goods are projected to increase by 14%, legumes and rice by 10%, and cereals by 8%.
It is noteworthy that essential household items closely follow food costs, significantly impacting overall expenses.
According to official data, over the past 11 months, the price of detergents and cleaning products has increased by 11.6%, while household paper products have been revalued three times during the same period.
As a consequence of these financial challenges, consumers are actively engaging in a “safari” for discounts and promotions, striving to make ends meet by the end of the month.
