Two Turkish nationals, 26 and 22, both identified as ethnic Kurds, were formally charged with homicide on Tuesday, a day after they were arrested shortly after gunning down two men and seriously wounding another in broad daylight.
The latest mob-style slayings in Greece by Turkey-based criminal gangs occurred in the Ano Glyfada district southeast of Athens, with panic erupting along the streets and shops where the shootings took place.
Another five suspects, also Turkish nationals, have been charged as accomplices in the deadly incident. Both victims and the seriously injured third man are also Turkish citizens of Kurdish descent. All of the suspects reportedly arrived in Greece after the summer and had no interaction with law enforcement authorities in the country, reports state. Additionally, authorities have not announced whether the suspects entered the country legally or clandestinely under the guise of asylum seekers/refugees/irregular migrants.
More video footage posted on Tuesday by various local media outlets shows at least one gunman chasing the victims and in one instance delivery a coup de grâce to the forehead of the two fatally wounded men.
Still other media reports in the Greek capital have the pair allegedly confessing to the slaying and claiming that the victims were members of a rival criminal gang that had assassinated one of their partners.
