An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded at 19.53 on Monday some four kilometers east, southeast of the town of Vassilika, in northern Evia (Euboea) island.

The tremor was felt in the greater Athens area to the southwest and in the Sporades islands to the north of Evia, while significantly shaking the northern part of the large island straddling the eastern seaboard of the central mainland.

The Athens Observatory’s Geodynamic Institute said the quake’s depth was 15.4 kilometers.

According to Athens University Prof. Efthymios Lekkas, who heads the natural disaster management faculty at the specific university, said residents should remain calm, as the region is well-documented as producing similar quakes in intensity.
