A 28-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at Domokou prison on the night of Tuesday, October 15. According to local news site Lamia.gr, the man’s cellmates noticed something was wrong and alerted the prison guards. A doctor from the Domokos Health Centre arrived on the scene, but despite attempts to revive the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The local news site states that the inmate, an Afghan national, was serving a life sentence and multiple years for crimes, including robbery, manslaughter, and causing dangerous bodily harm. Following his death, the Criminal Investigation Department conducted an initial investigation and ruled out foul play.
The site states that authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, which will be conducted by the forensic service in Lamia. A preliminary investigation is ongoing, and further details about the incident have not yet been released.
